Thomas Döring
Prof. Dr. Thomas Döring is an economist and sociologist.
He completed his studies in Marburg, where he earned his doctorate in 1997 with a dissertation on the topic “The Principle of Subsidiarity and Environmental Policy in the European Union.” In 2001, he obtained his habilitation with a thesis on the reform of the federal fiscal equalization system and received the Venia legendi for economics.
From 2006 to 2011, he held a professorship in economics with a focus on public finance at the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences. In 2011, he moved to Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, where he took on a professorship in politics and institutions with a specialization in institutional economics. He is also a regular presenter of a series of events there.
Additionally, from 2012 to 2021, he served as the head of the Center for Research and Development. He is a member of the Academy for Spatial Research and Planning (ARL) in the Leibniz Association, the Competence Center for Sustainable Municipal Financial Policy (NKFP) at the University of Münster, and the Scientific Advisory Board of the Center for Public Administration Research (KDZ) in Vienna.
