Racing & Sustainability – High Speed Meets Responsibility

Since 1999, Smudo has also made a name for himself on the racetrack. Inspired by the racing simulation Grand Prix Legends, he obtained his racing license and, since 2000, has competed alongside his partner Tom von Löwis in the VLN endurance championship as well as the legendary 24-hour race at the Nürburgring. But Smudo wouldn’t be Smudo if he did it just for fun – he is actively committed to renewable energy and sustainable motorsport.

With his Four Motors team, he collaborated with researchers and industry partners to develop the concept of Bioconcept-Cars – race cars featuring sustainable bodywork, alternative fuels, and resource-efficient materials. In 2017, he and his team won first place in the Alternative Fuels category.

Smudo also feels at home in the air: Since 2005, he has held a pilot’s license and has flown aircraft such as the Beechcraft Bonanza and the twin-engine Piper PA-34 Seneca.
