The transformation of economy and society
Economy and society are facing a far-reaching, global transformation that will exceed our previous expectations. Economic as well as social, but also ecological and technological changes are shaping our time – the consequences are not always clearly recognizable.
Uncertainty on the one hand and opportunities and potentials on the other generate manifold areas of tension: old thought patterns, outdated social structures, processes, power relations, economic forms as well as ways of working and living are being put to the test today and must be rethought.
The transformation is a challenge for industry, the service sector, the skilled trades, research and societies alike.
The importance of new forms of organization and society
This makes it all the more important to look at new forms of organization and ways of living together that also function under changing circumstances, are economical and focus on people’s interests.
Only then can a society emerge that is up to the challenges ahead.
Heading for the future
Therefore, changes must first and foremost arise from within and then be carried outward in a targeted manner. Targeted, authentic and honest communication is crucial in this context, as are sustainable and clearly defined development processes and structures.
The pressure of change could hardly be greater, and the burden is now borne by only one or two generations. The step from the old to the new must be sustainable and purposeful – and those who do not move with the times will fall by the wayside.
Changing values in our society
The diversity of our society has changed significantly in recent decades – and there is no end in sight to these developments for the time being. In many Western countries, for example, it is noticeable that the proportion of older people is rising, while the number of younger people is falling.
The bottom line is that life expectancy is rising, birth rates are falling and migration from other countries is increasing.
In addition, various aspects in the context of diversity, inclusion and transformation in professional and everyday life are becoming increasingly important to people: e.g., equal opportunities for women and men in everyday life, but especially in professional life, or improved framework conditions in the reconciliation of professional and private life (work-life balance).
Tomorrow’s society and economy
Against this background, it is essential for the economy and society – also in the course of globalization, digitalization and technologization – to provide strategic change processes and to implement them.
The opportunities and potentials of change management, inclusion work or diversity management must be used proactively to drive improvement for all of us.
