USA, Russia, China and Europe - the New World Order
The recent events of our time show that the previous world order is in a state of flux and that new global power relations are emerging. There is often talk of a “post-West age” – Beijing and Moscow claim to be the new powers of order of our time.
Can the two countries become the new global benchmark? What role will Europe play in the tug-of-war for supremacy in our world, and how will the U.S. relationship with the East develop?
East vs. West or Cold War 2.0
February 24, 2022 is considered a watershed in the recent past: The first day of the Russian war of aggression on Ukraine represents for many a continuation of the Cold War – Cold War 2.0 is the buzzword here.
While the U.S. turns its attention to Ukraine, Russia and China are pushing ahead with their political and economic cooperation. And the EU? Energy crisis and political interests are fueling uncertainty in mainland Europe.
On the one hand, there are strong economic dependencies on the East, and on the other hand, there is a clear political orientation toward the West: nothing new!
The dawn of a new world order
But the geopolitical, economic and social balance of power has not only been changing since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. No! The world has been polarized for many years.
The decoupling of the East from the West and vice versa has long since begun, and this could have even more far-reaching effects on the newly forming world order than many think.
International “stool-pulling”: What is the EU’s role in the new world order?
What role will the EU play in this world order in the future? Once the center of the modern world and a balancing force between East and West. And today?
The EU could face an internal acid test: The tension between West and East is increasingly affecting the Union’s political and economic decisions.
New geopolitical and economic power structures are emerging
And where does Russia stand? One thing is clear, the developments have made all parties poorer. Russia is now more economically dependent than ever on China and India, and political and diplomatic foundations with the West are damaged for decades to come.
Many of the achievements of the recent past have been lost – war, energy crisis and pandemic have hardened the fronts and the future still remains uncertain.
