After graduating in regular study time (“Master of Science”), he founded a digital agency in Bielefeld with a business partner, which he quickly built up to 50 employees. Different views on the right way to work – both with customers and with employee:s – led to a rift and a separation of the then 4 partners, so that in 2017 Lasse Rheingans had the opportunity to clarify questions relevant to him in a quiet hour in the garden: How and with whom and in which way do I want to perform in the future with my strengths and competences? For Lasse, as a team player, there was no question that he wanted to “save the German SME sector” together with a team of different people with his digital expertise. It was clear to him that this could only work with the best, happiest and healthiest employees – and so he took over an existing agency with 12 colleagues and, after rebranding it as “Rheingans Digital Enabler”, introduced the 5-hour day with the same pay.
Through the international coverage generated by this bold move, the company has transformed more and more over the years from a digital agency to a pure new work consultancy – and still is today. In 2019, Lasse summarized these experiences in his book “The 5-Hour Revolution: If you want success, you have to rethink work.” That’s because he found his calling in improving and modernizing work: He shares his expertise as a speaker on international stages and offers other New Work pioneers and exciting personalities a platform for exchange and inspiration in his video podcast “Sparring Express,” which is recorded in a historic streetcar in his hometown of Bielefeld.
Lasse Rheingans was awarded 1st place in the XING New Work Award, 2nd place in the Chefsache Award, the “Excellent Family Friendly” seal and 2nd place in the Deutsche Personalwirtschaft (“HR Macher 2020”) for his implementation of the 5-hour working day.
Wolfram Sauer's opinion on Lasse Rheingans
New work models for hybrid working are both a challenge and an opportunity. Lasse Rheingans was one of the first to recognize that today’s companies need to be attractive and active in order to retain employees.
