Nicole Langosch

Nicole Langosch – Pioneer of the maritime industry

Nicole Langosch has over 20 years of experience in the maritime industry. At just 19 years old, she laid the foundation for her remarkable career by completing a six-month internship aboard a 210-meter container ship in 2002 – serving as the only woman among 18 crew members from Europe and the Philippines. This formative experience led her directly to her nautical studies in Leer, Germany.

During her studies, Nicole gained valuable international experience through semesters abroad in Tenerife and Auckland, New Zealand, as well as internships at the EU Commission in Brussels, where she deepened her knowledge of shipping logistics.

In 2008, she began her career as a Third Officer with the AIDA fleet, a time when female officers on large cruise ships were still a rarity. As the fleet expanded, so did her career opportunities. After serving as a Nautical Officer and Safety Officer on new ship deliveries from the Meyer Werft shipyard, she earned her captain’s license in 2013 and assumed the role of Deputy Captain (Staff Captain).

In 2018, Nicole Langosch made history by becoming the first German female captain of a cruise ship, taking command of the AIDAsol, with 630 crew members and an average of 2,400 guests on board. For this achievement, she was named “Personality of the Year” by WISTA Germany and was nominated for the prestigious VICTRESS Award in 2019.

After more than a decade at sea, Nicole transitioned to a land-based role in 2019 to bring her extensive maritime expertise ashore. Since 2021, she has been part of the technical management team for HX expedition ships, becoming Managing Director in 2022. The expedition fleet, operating primarily in the polar waters of the Arctic and Antarctic, demands strict adherence to international safety, environmental, and labor regulations, a responsibility Nicole manages alongside her nautical and technical team.
