Thomas Druyen on the challenges of the future
Prof. Dr. Thomas Druyen is a university professor, futurologist and director of the IZZ Institute for Future Psychology and Future Management at Sigmund Freud Private University in Vienna.
He is concerned with future psychology and future management. How can we learn from the future? Thomas Druyen sees the grandiose technical development as an opportunity and as a historical possibility for people to reach a new level of shaping the future.
Prof. Druyen says: “At the moment we are experiencing the greatest change in human history, yet companies, politics, administrations, business and culture are behaving as if they only have to become more efficient and better in order to solve the problems. This is wrong. We need a new mindset, because there are factors like artificial intelligence that are now making our old and also successful ways of thinking obsolete.”
Thomas Druyen researches knowledge, visions & desires
Since 2015, Prof. Dr. Druyen and his team have conducted more than 9000 interviews with people from all generations, using the Future Compass. The aim is to capture the wishes, hopes, fantasies and imagination of the interviewees. The interviews all begin mentally 10 or 15 years from now. “In this way, we and the interviewees from all walks of life manage to associate their own futures and thus also gain access to their unconscious. Against this background, we actually gain many new insights into emotional and psychological expectations of the future. In this respect, we actually come very close to the future. But the crucial thing is to shape it ourselves. That is our greatest opportunity.”

But also new research areas that he has established himself, such as wealth culture research, wealth psychology, future psychology, future navigation and future management, are among his lecture topics at meetings and conferences.
