Benedikt Böhm – What business leaders and decision-makers can learn from extreme mountaineers
Benedikt Böhm is Germany’s most athletic manager. As a speed mountaineer, CEO of the ski touring equipment manufacturer Dynafit and WWF ambassador, he repeatedly builds bridges between the extreme mountain world and the business world. At the same time, Böhm is not a risk-taker who is tired of life. In sport as in business, he plans his ambitious goals meticulously and works consistently and with passion to achieve them.
Benedikt Böhm climbs 8,000-metre mountains not only without oxygen or outside help, but also extremely fast in the so-called “speed style”. This uncompromising style, which is entirely geared to speed, is all about limiting the time and thus the risk in the death zone. It requires absolute precision and preparation to tackle such a giant within such a tight time window. This involves an incredible amount of training and discipline. But it also requires the creativity to develop new techniques and the courage to think and act differently. He leads his expeditions as well as his company responsibly and thoughtfully. For him it is clear: success is always the result of careful and conscientious planning.
The borderline experiences in the mountains are the ones that have proved most valuable for Benedikt Böhm’s management career. He talks about this in his inspiring lectures, which are made even more vivid with breathtaking images and short video clips with rare footage from the highest mountains in the world.
Benedikt Böhm is the founder of the Helping Band brand, which is dedicated to the preservation and expansion of nature and marine protected areas. Therefore, he works together with the WWF, which he also represents as an ambassador.

In his presentations, he looks at what leaders can learn from extreme athletes. How do I prepare for seemingly utopian goals? How do I build up an inner ‘momentum’ to achieve the seemingly impossible? And how can risk be calculated in the best possible way? What role does speed play in minimising risk, but also patience and flexibility in large projects? How do we behave in absolutely exceptional situations? What role do fear and courage play? How do we overcome fear on the way to big goals? What does it take to break new ground and successfully lead a change and how do we find our way back to the original attitude after huge setbacks?
