Johanna Bath at MSD Germany: Building greater resilience through (self-)leadership

How can we strengthen our own resilience in turbulent times whilst also creating a working environment that offers stability even under pressure?
Prof. Johanna Bath addressed this question at an event in Munich, organised by MSD Germany’s Next Generation Network.
Under the title ‘Strengthened in turbulent times – greater resilience through (self-)leadership’, Johanna Bath demonstrated how employees and managers can better cope with change, stress and uncertainty. She made it clear that whilst not all stress factors can be influenced, the way we personally deal with them certainly can.
A key focus of her keynote speech was the role of self-leadership and shared responsibility within the team. A fair distribution of the workload, deliberate periods of rest and a corporate culture that does not take constant availability for granted contribute significantly to resilience.
The topic of proximity bias also featured. Particularly in hybrid working models, it is crucial that employees are perceived, supported and valued equally, regardless of their physical presence.
And although the Oktoberfest was tempting as a rival event, there was certainly no shortage of discussion at MSD Germany. On the contrary: Johanna Bath’s insights sparked lively discussions, personal anecdotes and many thought-provoking questions. It was particularly heartening to see how openly the participants exchanged views and reflected together on what each and every one of them can do to contribute to a more resilient working environment. A successful exchange offering valuable food for thought, which will hopefully continue to resonate for a long time to come.
